High tea is a decadent meal at the best of times, but the chance to enjoy a selection of tasty treats while on board a beautifully appointed boat is one which makes the experience seem all the more lavish. The intimate interior of the boat provides a warm and welcoming atmosphere and the banks of the River Dart provide a breathtaking backdrop to this delicious meal.
The boat is a 1960s Berry Brothers launch which is decked out in oak and iroko and named ‘The Elberry’ after a picturesque cove on the south Devon coast. The heated dining area provides the ideal spot from which guests can watch the world go by, admiring the incredible scenery and enjoying the sensation of being on the water.
This two-hour long experience is an indulgent way to spend an afternoon, relaxing on board the beautifully appointed boat and making the most of a chance to view the scenic Devon landscape from a completely new perspective. The music is hand-picked to create the perfect ambience, whether that’s French café style, classic or Spanish jazz.
The afternoon tea itself comprises a selection of sandwiches, including smoked salmon and cream cheese, ham and mustard and cheese and pickle. These are followed by home-made scones and cakes and accompanied by speciality leaf tea as well as a complimentary glass of bubbly.
The skipper is an expert in the sights and sounds of the river and will point out areas of particular interest and help spot some of the local wildlife, allowing guests to learn some of the lesser-known facts about this fabled waterway.
