Elsecar Heritage Railway, an esteemed heritage steam railway, is offering the unbelievable experience of an hour’s drive in one of their classic full-size heritage industrial diesel railway engines for one person. Absolutely perfect for locomotive and train enthusiasts alike, this experience offers visitors the chance to learn about and drive a typical engine from the 1960s used by the National Coal Board to haul coal trains on the line. You will have the opportunity to crew the engine and learn about the important roles of the driver and second man under the careful, controlled and capable supervision of a very much qualified and able crew. This is your chance to experience first-hand the raw power of one of these mighty behemoths as you take to the throttle and take over the controls for yourself. Guests are completely welcome to watch and take photographs of your fantastic experience. Take the ride of the lifetime for an experience you’re sure to never forget!

You will arrive at Elsecar Heritage Railway report to the main reception. You will then be fully trained by capable and qualified staff on a one hour diesel course for how to drive the train.

This experience is for one person plus a guest on an introductory diesel train driving experience. This voucher is valid for 10 months. This experience is available Thursdays from April – October only. All dates are subject to availability. Participants must be reasonably fit and in good health. Durable footwear is essential. Participants may not consume any alcohol on the day of the experience. Complimentary tea and coffee is provided throughout the experience.

Upon purchasing this Introductory Diesel Train Driving Experience on the Elsecar Heritage Railway voucher it must be activated by either you or the recipient before it can be used.
